Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the new Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament, having garnered a 15,671-vote majority. He got 31,195 votes, while Barisan's Arif Shah got 15,524 votes and Hanafi Amat (Akim) managed 92 votes, losing his RM 15,000 deposit.

2. Hanafi Mamat (AKIM) : 92 votes
3. Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah (BN) : 15,524 votes
Turnout: 81.01 percent%
There were 447 spoilt votes and 98 unreturned ballot papers.
