Cabinet should manage the PKFZ issue

The Cabinet has set up a task force to look into two aspects whether the project was carried out in line with good governance and its future direction. The third aspect will be investigated by the police.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that the task force would be headed by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan and would include Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, officers from the Transport Ministry and also professionals.

Najib said the Cabinet, which discussed the PKFZ issue at its weekly meeting yesterday, decided to divide the issue into three aspects.

He added that apart from the two aspects to be looked into by the task force, the other was to determine whether there was abuse of power, any wrongdoings or violation of law.

Undeniably, the issue had been exploited by the Minister concern and became very political. The decision has now finally been made by the cabinet. It is a political decision of the highest order to harden the tone of the language as PKFZ project had became a major domestic political issue.

It further shows that the cabinet should manage the PKFZ issue of what should be rather than what is. The purpose of this is to resolve the negative political problems that arise.

Muhyiddin : Ong and Tiong should sort out PKFZ dispute amicably

The PKFZ project is an important national project to foster sustainable economic growth.

Unfortunately, the dispute arises from the fact that, from a political economical perspective, it is unlikely that the quarreling in the open had occurred.

Clearly, some measure ought to be taken more seriously by Barisan Nasional to satisfactorily resolve the crucial controversy.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin wants both the parties who are embroiled in a dispute over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue to resolve the matter amicably seems to be the correct alternative solutions to the problem.

"It's not for me to teach them... they are grown-ups and also leaders of political parties," he said, adding that he would not stop any party from proceeding with their action because it was their right to do so.
