Is
the world a better place when it’s upside down? How about stay in an upside
down house? Can everything be better when upside down?
There are so many upsides down houses in the
world but it’s merely a showpiece. Likewise the ones in Borneo, it’s for
tourism.
Malaysia
very first Upside down House or in Bahasa Malaysia Rumah Terbalik, is located in
Kampong Telibong, Jalan Telibong, Tamparuli, 89208 Tuaran, Sabah.
As February
2012, it has been listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as being the first
Upside down House of Malaysia.
Tamparuli
is a small town, a sub-district of Tuaran on the west coast of Sabah. It is a
popular tourist attraction and it’s along the main highway to Mount Kinabalu. The
population is dominated by native Dusuns but a sizeable Chinese runs most of
the shops.
It is learn
that the owner of the Upside down House is Mr Alexander Yee, a Sabahan who owns
construction firm and a tourist lodge in the wildlife rich Kinabatangan district
in the east coast of Sabah.
The outward
appearance of the upside down House looks exactly like the traditional Sabah
village residence and it took about six months to build. It cost about half a
million ringgit to build the 140 sq m house with fully equipped interior
including dining room, master bedroom, living room bathroom and kitchen.
All the
things in the house had been placed upside down like 40 inch TV, microwave, vacuum
cleaner, computer, desk, chair, sofa, bed, cabinet, washing machine, painting, stove,
rice cooker, fridge, sewing machine and etc. The 35 kg sewing machine on top and
the upside down car are one of the main attractions.
A new and
amazing tourist attraction for the town, the upside down house has a souvenir
shop and café. A guided tour will be provided for the 20 min tour and strictly no
photography in the house. The entrance fee is RM10.
