Casuarina - Biowall to tsunami

Casuarina plantations have acted as holistic tsunami protection plant and barriers in reducing the onslaught of tsunami.

 

When the killer tsunami struck down thousands of people and homes, the casuarina trees which had been planted saved the Coastal communities.

The tree’s root nodules of Casuarina are known to fix nitrogen, and increase the soil's fertility. Its abundant leaf-fall is high in nitrogen and prized for mulch besides in mitigating the loss of life and property.
