Rais Yatim : Nik Aziz's opinions were no longer acceptable

Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the PAS spiritual leader's opinions were no longer acceptable although he was a knowledgeable and elderly person.

He said, "We used we see him as the party's spiritual leader but now we see him as someone who only knows how to revile others.

"This is not the work of a religious man, not the work of a spiritual adviser, this is vilification."

Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz has issued a call to all the people of Kelantan, irrespective of political leanings, to unite under the cause of demanding for Kelantan's rightful oil royalty payments from the federal government.

He proclaimed: "As long as they do not give the oil royalty, we will pray until that person's stomach bursts.”

The PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz was also reported to have described the rejection of oil royalty payments to the Kelantan government as "a violation of basic human rights".

The question arises: Is Nik Aziz using religious practice to demand oil royalty is an unbecoming behavior as an Islamic leader?

As the rift between PAS leaders over the unity talks with Umno deepens, Kelantan PAS only wants the poster of Nik Aziz up for next month's Manek Urai by-election.

It is reported that that the move is related to Nik Aziz has been against the unity government talks right from the start, and he even lambasted Hadi openly in the Muktamar.

The proposal was mooted by Hadi and backed by his deputy Nasharuddin Mat Isa.

The spiritual leader has called all those who support such talks as 'Umno puppets'.

Should Nizar get Nik Aziz's Blessing to contest in Bukit Gantang?

Pas spiritual leader Nik Aziz originally questioned the decision of fielding Nizar as the candidate in the Bukit Gantang by-election suddenly made a u-turn and change the decision to turn down his own decision by giving his blessing.

Undeniably, the blessing had shown how inconsistency of the PAS spiritual leader is. The political scenario seeming that he is totally removed from the party decision making process. This is merely a feed to give him the information after the decision has been made.

This is something that might irk his supporters, who has all the while felt that he has a major influence on the party decision-making process. The party had rejected the spiritual leader’s preferred candidate for the Kuala Terengganu by-election in January, caused tension among the party members.

Many of his supporters were unhappy over the Kuala Terengganu incident despite the Pas leadership having evidently made the right decision in not fielding Vice-president Mohamad Sabu as recommended by Nik Aziz.

It is reported that Pas spiritual adviser Nik Aziz has given his blessing for former Perak Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to contest in the April 7 Bukit Gantang by-election. He said Nizar who is the party's deputy commissioner for the state was the right candidate to face Barisan Nasional in the constituency.

Nik Aziz who is Kelantan Menteri Besar said last month that he could not agree to the suggestion that Nizar be fielded in the Bukit Gantang by-election since the Pas and its opposition allies still regarded Nizar as Perak Menteri Besar.

"I have contacted Nizar and bless his nomination to contest," he told reporters after receiving a visit from Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Ashok K. Kantha at his office.
