'Opposition 'proven' incapable of fulfilling promises'

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said it is now proven that the opposition pact, especially in Selangor, is incapable of running a government.

He said the opposition parties only knew how to make promises without thinking whether they had the ability to deliver them.

He said in Selangor, the state government was faced with various issues such as the sand mining issue, which he said, was in stark contrast to their claims of being an efficient government.

"They have no ability to manage the state economy although they claim to be an efficient government.

"In reality, they only talk... they talk like a parrot, they say things without knowing the meaning," Muhyiddin said the failure of the opposition to run their administration smoothly had affected confidence among investors towards the country, especially in Selangor.

"Should we trust them? I want the people to be aware of this and not destroy our future by believing in the lies and allegations being spread by the opposition parties when they themselves are not capable of delivering their own promises," he said.

Muhyiddin said that unlike the opposition pact, Barisan Nasional had proven its capabilities and that it had now overcome its past weaknesses, with the leaders now going to the ground to meet the people. "We are now a true government for the people," he said.

He also refuted allegations by the opposition that the BN was a racist government.

"How is it that they are accusing us of being racist when we are representing the interest of everyone... the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan and so on," he said.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak should be the next Prime Minister

The former de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has made an impassioned plea to the King to not appoint Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister, and instead appoint someone else from Umno "to bring us back from the brink."

The impassioned plea is an unusually scathing attack and seems to be politically motivated. The accusations toward Datuk Seri Najib Razak are baseless, political motivated and unjustified as a person is innocent until proven guilty in the court.

In this case what is raised is merely speculation. Speculation, rumors and allegations cannot influence the decision which has to be based on strong evidence against an individual.

Ironically, Malaysia goes by the constitutional monarchy and democratic parliamentary system modeled after the Westminster in the United Kingdom.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia is the indirectly elected head of government of Malaysia. He is formally appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the head of state, and is invariably the leader of the largest party in the House of Representatives, the elected lower house of Parliament.

Prime Minister is a member of the Dewan Rakyat who commands authority over the majority members of the House. In choosing the Prime Minister, the King of Malaysia appoints the choice of the political party with a majority in the state legislature in accordance to Article 40(2) of the Federal Constitution.

Undeniably, the monarchy has mainly giving its consent to decisions made by the government although the choice of the Prime Minister of Malaysia is at the sole discretion of the King and not to be disputed.

The leader of Barisan Nasional has been choosing to administer the country since independence. It is the largest component party of the National Front formerly known as the Alliance Party until the 1969 general election.

By and large, Datuk Seri Najib Razak should be the next Prime Minister.

BN is confident of retaining Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat

The Kuala Terengganu by-election will be held on Jan 17 following the death of its Member of Parliament Datuk Razali Ismail Razali on Nov 28, 2008.


In the 12th General Election on March 8, 2008, there were 80,325 voters in P36 Kuala Terengganu; voter turnout was 66,132 or 82.3%. Razali Ismail of UMNO-BN obtained 32,582 votes, defeating Mohamed Sabu of PAS 31,934 votes by a very slim majority of 628 votes. Independent candidate Puan Maimun Yusuf who managed to get 685 votes and there were 931 spoil votes.

Kuala Terengganu, with Malays making up 90 per cent of the strong electorate, 11% Chinese voters in the electorate who have traditionally backed MCA.

The by-election is going to be an absolute fought between UMNO and PAS, or rather Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat. PAS are facing internal problems and tussles within PR component parties as all parties in PR can’t cuts across racial lines.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak handed over RM408.6 million in oil royalty to Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said and the state government tabled a balanced budget of RM1.799 billion for the year 2009 to ensure the government can implement high-impact projects for the people, the moves seen by many observers as a bonus to BN.

PAS, a nearly exclusively Malay-Muslim party, is not very optimistic of the Malay votes as Anwar and his colleagues in the Pakatan Rakyat cannot be trusted to safeguard their position.

The PR government seems to create the image of uphold Malay rights and would sell out the Malays. The stand on Ketuanan Melayu, or Malay Supremacy, the New Economic Policy, social contract pertaining to Malay sovereign rights, Malay Rulers, Islam as the official religion, Bahasa Malaysia as the national language and pig farms in Selangor have had to allay fears of Malays being sidelined and may cause Malay voters to lean towards BN.

The wrestling of power between PAS's conservatives and reformists will not only chart the future path of the party, but will also affect the cooperation among the three Pakatan component parties as well as the faith of voters towards the opposition pact.

Is MCA at the political cross-road?

MCA reaps disastrous results in the 12th Malaysian general election and the current political turmoil left the Chinese based party almost split between the opinions that should MCA pull out from Barisan Nasional or otherwise. MCA finds itself at the historical cross-road once again after 1969.

Will MCA leaves BN? Will racial politics more relevant than multi racial-coalition? On the political scene, the performance of MCA leadership has been more critically received especially the president. Critically, it seems that MCA needs a leadership revamp badly rather than pull out from Barisan Nasional as it’s the historical political partner in nation building.

Undeniably, the lack of capable political leadership in MCA especially the ability and experience to position itself in Barisan Nasional is crucial factor. Attributes the interest in multiculturalism, the MCA leaders who can compromise their convictions within acceptable limits, without betraying their consciences, in order to achieve the best for all especially MCA, as they understand the best to be, in cooperation with their political opponents are by far needed.


The qualities of MCA leadership that made for political success in the past are enduring, but courage, fearlessly to enunciate government policies and to confront the country's problems, is now required more than ever. The ability to be able to differentiate between political mediocrity and quality, regardless of what camp the person is from as a shift to the political establishment.

Ironically, bad roots will always produce bad fruits. It was devastating for MCA in becoming a euphemism in architectural and cultural circles for narrow-mindedness, provincial conservatism without a clear path and future vision for Chinese community.

The scandals surrounding many political leaders raise the question of whether character matters in the leader, character does count, and morality—both private and public—is essential in the leaders. But it seems that the Chinese community by large wanted the leader not only capable of changing their minds but admitting their errors in an era of political realignment of MCA.


Historically, there are people of great character and honor in Malaysia especially founding father of UMNO Dato' Onn Ja'far and that was, for it to be a multi-racial party, but he was against to run for political office.

By and large, the majority of Chinese community had neither the full incentives nor the clear understanding of the deep forces needed to generate substantive political change, although it has been known for its radical politics in Barisan Nasional. This trend of radicalization is also visible in the coalition parties in Barisan Nasional.

It seems that the Chinese community as well as the party members wanted MCA to be more assertive in having political leaders of ability and experience, wisdom and knowledge, of moderation and temperance, of patience, fortitude and perseverance to achieve the best for all through a clear path and future vision for Chinese community.

SAPP digs its graveyard by pulling out from Barisan Nasional

By pulling out from BN, SAPP seems to dig its own political gladiator graveyard and bury its political future. The party needs to do more with graveyards than mow the grass now.

Can the mosquito party dig his back up out of his own graveyard is an interesting question and the answer is waiting for by many political analysts and partisans.


The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is no longer a member of the Barisan Nasional. Its Supreme Council decided today that the party will pursue an “autonomous political path.”

The party’s supreme council, which met this afternoon, has opted to be an opposition party but has no plan to join Pakatan Rakyat for now.

"The SAPP supreme council has declared that the party is no longer a member of the Barisan Nasional coalition," party President Yong Teck Lee.


"We will be independent at the moment and provide quality opposition in and outside the parliament, as well as the state assembly, until the time comes when SAPP is ready to be back in the government."

The government will not be weakened by Zaid’s resignation

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the government is strong and will not be weakened by Zaid’s resignation as the government is not dependent on a single individual.

He said the government’s move to introduce law reforms in the country will definitely continue, whether the minister responsible for the reforms, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, is around or not.

De facto Law Minister Senator Datuk Zaid Ibrahim once had his party membership suspended, and was denied the chance to contest in the election to retain his parliamentary seat.


Nevertheless, he was handpicked by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to be appointed as a Cabinet minister despite the fact that he was not an elected representative, and be charged with the duties to oversee judicial reforms.

Six months after being handpicked, he resigned as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department but remains as a Senator. Is he “kacang lupakan kulit?”

He was reported to have submitted his resignation letter to Abdullah on Monday, a day after he had expressed unhappiness over the manner the government had used the Internal Security Act (ISA) on Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng; Seputeh Member of Parliament and senior Selangor state executive councilor Teresa Kok and blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin.

NO POLITICAL HOPPING IN SARAWAK

The BN government in power is assured as no political hopping in Sarawak.

Party leaders from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and their respective elected representatives voiced the support during meetings with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

They pledged their loyalty to the coalition's federal leadership and dismissed any notion of crossing over to the opposition.

Sarawak BN holds 30 of the state's 31 parliamentary seats and 62 of the 71 state seats.
