Prime minister promotes policies for every ethnic group

MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said, Titiwangsa Umno division chief Johari Abdul Ghani's speech that Umno did not need Indian or Chinese votes appeared on YouTube was unlikely to have an impact on Chinese voters come the Nov 4 Galas by-election.

He said that such leaders do not represent the mainstream view among Umno's top leadership.

“If we want a definite answer, ask the prime minister. The prime minister clearly promotes 1Malaysia with policies for every ethnic group. This is very clear,” he told reporters when met in Gua Musang town today.

MCA would not support these non-mainstream grassroots leaders and even recommend to the Umno leadership that they not be fielded as candidates in the general election. He said that such Umno leaders do not act in the spirit of BN which looks after the interests of all ethnic groups.

“This (video clip) tells us that there are some Umno grassroots leaders who are not politically savvy. They are not very smart. We will report back to the prime minister.

“They should not come out (in public). We will pursue this. They should not represent BN and should retire and go home,” said Chua.

Chua was commenting on a video clip depicting a speech by Titiwangsa Umno division Chief Johari Abdul Ghani at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Johari said that for Umno to retain the Titiwangsa Parliamentary seat, it merely has to ensure 70 percent of the Malay vote there.

“Gentlemen, if you secure 70 percent of the 32,000 Malay vote, then we won't need Chinese and Indian votes,” said Johari, triggering applause from his audience.

“If we want to win in Titiwangsa, we want Malays (to vote for us). We want Malays. Don't bow down to the Chinese and Indians just because we want to win. Don't do it,” he said.

Acid test for MCA president

The acid test for MCA president Datuk Ong Tee Keat to prove his leadership quality and strengthening the party are the appointment of MCA minister posts.

The news reports that Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Ong Ka Chuan had tendered his resignation from his Cabinet post to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat as hefailed in his bid for the deputy presidency trigger the speculation.

Although it is the prerogative of the president to recommend the changes to the prime minister, should Dr Chua be nominated for a ministerial position and return to the cabinet soon after being appointed as senator remains the question to be answered?

According to MCA party tradition, the four cabinet posts are reserved for the president, deputy, secretary-general and the vice-president who received the highest votes.

After the general election, MCA was allocated four full ministerial positions which are held by Ong Tee Keat, Ong Ka Chuan, Liow Tiong Lai and Vice-president Ng Yen Yen.

Where is MCA heading to?

In spite of significant institutional reforms, MCA seems has yet to build a truly participatory democracy.

The new leadership line-up announced by MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and the emphasis that the line-up is not meant to please certain group of people once again portrays his lone-ranger, almost maverick image.

Ironically, the appointment of veteran leader Datuk Ng Cheng Kiat as the disciplinary bureau chief, instead of the deputy president and he himself who doubles up as the Johor chairman clearly perceive the hidden political agenda that seeks to possess another person for his self-benefit purposes rather than the interest of the party as a whole.

The rationale that it was not MCA's tradition for deputy president to head the disciplinary bureau and according to party traditions, the party president has always been Johor state liaison committee chairman are neither justified nor acceptable.

Could he fulfill the obvious desire among people to see the reform of MCA and MCA to be more vocal to articulate the frustrations of the Chinese remain the interesting questions to be answered.

Undeniably, Tee Keat is only widely perceived as not popular with Umno due to his controversial, lone-ranger style.

He has crossed swords with both Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein Onn and his deputy Khairy Jamaluddin on several occasions as well as offended many Umno leaders along the way. It would be interesting to observe the impact after the UMNO party election.

In MCA, he exploited adroitly the differences of various factions in the past, and his survival skills are truly impressive.

However, other than uttering sophisticated phrases in Mandarin to enchant the Chinese-speaking crowd, he has not come up with any initiative as to how he would reform the party, not to mention policy changes in government

Can he mobilize in the fight against corruption is another question remain to be asked. Often, it simply waits for someone else to do it.

Chua Soi Lek was sidelined

The MCA political power games will drag the party to unprecedented depths once again and are the cause of political instability and internal crisis.

Although Chua Soi Lek who created an upset of sorts by winning the deputy presidency, but was conspicuously left out without a state liaison chairperson's post.

The former Johor state chief and Labis MP is unlikely to get a government post without a key party position other than deputy president. He was instead given a minor post where he is to lead the party's government policy monitoring bureau.

Although the appointments were the president's prerogative but this move is claimed to be unwise as democracy should be respected as Chua Soi Lek was elected as MCA deputy president.

The major reshuffle was newly-minted MCA president Ong Tee Keat vacating the Selangor liaison chief post to Wong Foon Meng, while taking over the plum job of heading MCA Johor.

Could he gain the political support from Johor MCA is the question to be asked.

Abdullah: Umno is not a bully

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said, “Umno is not a ‘bully’ party, there is no such thing as bully, we are all friends.”


Abdullah said in reply to a point raised by outgoing MCA president Ong Ka Ting in the 55th MCA General Assembly. “

If that is our way (being a bully), many component parties would have left BN by now.”

“People say Umno is a party that likes to bully. I actually have no idea how to bully people,” the BN chairman said when opening the 55th MCA General Assembly.

“This is the strategy used by the opposition to destabilize BN. The issue of Umno bullying components does not start from component parties.

“There is no such thing as bullying. Ask these people in the front,” the Umno president said referring to the MCA leaders on stage.

“If that is our way, a lot of components would have left. You think Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting or Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon want to be bullied?” he said, referring to the MCA and Gerakan presidents respectively.

“Ong is not a weak leader. He is strong and effective. Do not have the impression after he retires that he was a weak leader,” he added.

The prime minister also accused Hindraf of being a group that sought to discredit the MIC and its president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

“That is their work, to give rise to dissatisfaction with our leaders.”

Is MCA Politics ethically and morally corrupt?

It’s without a doubt that MCA is loosing more of their seats after the 12 general election. How damaging is it when members of BN begin to publicly turn on BN coalition parties, as is happening in the 12 the General Election.

Ironically, MCA is being disrespected by members and supporters lately especially after the 12th General Election. Is MCA or rather BN deserving so?


The serious question arises, is MCA politics ethically and morally corrupt and became the disrespected political party? The smear tactics and low performing on going again could be the final death knell for MCA in Malaysian politics.

Politically, smear tactics are considered by many to be a low, disingenuous form of discourse; nevertheless it is being claimed that it is mobilized among MCA party delegates to defame the candidate which attempt to undermine the credibility in next month’s party polls.

A smear campaign or smear tactic is a negative campaigning and often based on information gleaned from opposition research conducted by paid political consultants, intentional, premeditated effort to undermine an individual's or group's reputation, credibility and character including such colloquialisms as mud slinging, or shit-eating.

It often consists of ad hominem attacks in the form of unverifiable rumors and is often distortions, half-truths, or even outright lies.

As usual, the smear campaign is being mobilized among MCA party delegates now. MCA vice-president Datuk Ong Tee Keat said, those resorting to smear campaigns to defame a candidate in next month’s party polls should stop immediately,

He said using dirty tactics such as caricatures, poison-pen letters and fabricated letters to attack another person was equivalent to committing murder.

He was commenting on the statement by party deputy president candidate Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who claimed that a conspiracy was being mobilized among party delegates to defame him through caricatures.

Ong viewed such dirty tactics with amusement and disdain.

Hudud and qisas laws totally unacceptable by MCA

PAS has never wavered from their theocratic Islamic state concept and is staunchly in favour of an Islamic state which includes the imposition of hudud and qisas laws on non-Muslims which is claimed totally unacceptable by MCA.

MCA - the second largest party in the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition - is flabbergasted by PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz’s proposal to implement hudud and qisas laws, among other things in the country should the PAS-UMNO merger become a reality.

“I am disappointed and gravely concerned with Nik Aziz’s statement to implement hudud and qisas laws as it would mean the creation of a theocratic Islamic state.” said MCA Youth Secretary General YB Dr Ir Wee Ka Siong.

“PAS must bear in mind that Malaysia is a multiracial country, and we must always go back to the Federal Constitution as the supreme law of the land that enshrines the rights of every Malaysian citizen. I urge UMNO to object to PAS’ proposal as it is a matter of principle.” said YB Dr Ir Wee Ka Siong.

Under Islam, crimes classified under hudud such as murder, theft and adultery carry severe punishment including the amputation of limbs and stoning to death.

Meanwhile, qisas (law of retaliation) allows for, among others, compensation in the form of money or property if the heirs of the victim forgive the murderer.

MCA CLANDESTINE STRATEGY TO MAINTAIN POWER

MCA is the second largest BN component member. Politically, it is extreme strategic importance and inevitably leads to “politicization”. MCA has undergone profound, often dramatic crisis.

Its political importance and power resources have always made MCA a prime target for the covetous eyes of mighty politicians inside or outside the party. With its unique political position, MCA has been the main center for party leader rivalries seeking controlling and monopolizing the party.

With the settling political crisis of team A and team B, Ong Ka Ting emerged as the MCA president, the most powerful man in Chinese society or the so called emperor of Ong dynasty.

Ironically, clandestine or covert action often contributes to maintaining the power. It is manifestly true that MCA vice-president Donald Lim Siang Chai said he was among those targeted by a clandestine group of ‘spies’ allegedly delegated to snoop on the political enemies of MCA president Ong Ka Ting.

“If it is true, then those who are responsible will definitely be taken to task by MCA members because this is something that is bad, especially if you go looking into people’s private affairs. I was informed not long ago that I am one of the targets of this spying group,” he said.

Lim’s statement came on the heels of claims by several figures within MCA reported earlier this week pertaining to the existence of this group. They said it was formed about three years ago to pry into the private lives of and dig up dirt on a senior official’s political rivals. The most prominent casualty of their machinations, it was claimed, was former MCA vice-president Dr Chua Soi Lek.

IS MCA RECOVERY PLAN PRACTICAL?

MCA has formulated an action plan to recover from its poor performance at the recent elections. However, party president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting is keeping mum on the details.

The one-and-a-half day closed-door brainstorming session with 40 central committee members was held due to its worst showing at the recent polls, winning only 15 of 40 parliamentary and 31 of 90 state seats contested. It previously held 31 parliamentary and 76 state seats.

Ong also hinted that the party might take a more vocal stand on issues affecting the Chinese community. He added the party would work on improving its public image by increasing publicity on its accomplishments.

As MCA attention focuses on the serious setback in the recent election, a devastating disaster is impending inside the root of the MCA, where MCA-sponsored Investment Company incorporated on the 80s.

The basic question arises: Has MCA also taken into the account of political responsibility and obligation to help the victimized minority shareholders of MCA-sponsored Investment Company incorporated on the 80s where the investors were mainly MCA members and supporters?

According to the record, it clearly showed that the MCA-sponsored Investment Companies incorporated on the 80s are Selangor Aik Hua Holdings Berhad, Pahang Phang Wah Holding, Johor Ma Teng Holding and Perak Peak Hua Holding.

Until today, thousands of shareholders claimed that they were in the dark for years as the MCA-sponsored company failed to send any annual report or inform the shareholders of its status.

Legally, under the Malaysian laws, it is a serious offense if the directors of the companies fail to submit the annual reports with financial statements and conduct annual shareholders meetings.

No single MCA leaders were hold for the political responsibility and obligation. Failing or shy away to address the root reason is just like leaving the time bomb waiting to go off, said the political analysis.

Ironically, everybody knows about the threat but they have other preoccupations. It could go at any minute; the potential political disaster is by far very great.

The root reason claimed to be the fall of MIC is because of Maika Holding. It claims that the root-hidden reason and the clear message from the Chinese community to the present MCA leadership for the serious setback of MCA concluded to be MCA-sponsored Investment Company incorporated on the 80s and others major issues which involved Chinese social economic interests.

Shouldn’t Ong Kah Ting as the president of MCA places responsibility on anyone else's shoulders or otherwise?
If someone just said, well, the MCA politicians need not take responsibility about the past burden of the MCA-sponsored Investment Companies incorporated on the 80s, where the investors were mainly MCA members and supporters, what would they feel? As can be seen why the great politicians always hang on to their responsibilities.

YAP PIAN HON-MCA AIK HUA HOLDING FIASCO

Datuk Yap Pian Hon said, the grassroot leaders were said utterly flabbergasted, saddened and disenchanted with the huge casualties of MCA candidates.

Datuk Yap Pian Hon was accusing MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting as a poor quality leader and thus should bear full responsibility toward the dismal performance in the general election and resign.

Should MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting resigned and Datuk Yap Pian Hon be the one replacing him, what will be the scenario?

Ironically, the strategy of MCA to inject fresh talented young professional into parliament is a good move for the survival of MCA. But unfortunately, too many new faces were selected to replace senior leaders in a short time and the bad image of political unethical left by the senior MCA leaders still not addressed.

Undeniably, the unethical misachieble politically done by senior MCA toward Chinese society is unforgettable. The promises given also by large not fulfill, rather taken advantages for. The deteriorating opportunities in all aspect as a big burden to the non-Malay but they take it with a hope that tomorrow will be better.

The root reason for the fall of MIC is because of Maika Holding. The economic manipulation for the political benefits of senior MCA leaders are therefore still unforgettable, it’s a no-confidence vote for MCA that exploited and take the right of investors for granted in which is against the ethic of the government of Mr. Clean in which MCA is the second biggest partner.

Tun Dr Mahathir said, “Orang Melayu mudah lupa” as so to the Chinese. But every year, non other than other opportunities, as the ASB announcing given a good dividend to Malay, the poor Chinese in which invested in MCA-sponsored investment companies heart nothing about their hard earn money investment.

To investigate this problem is to recast the root reason, in Selangor, Datuk Yap Pian Hon was one of the founders of Aik Hua Holdings Berhad, a MCA-sponsored investment company incorporated on May 13, 1981. As recorded, Datuk Yap was one of the ten directors listed in the Prospectus of Aik Hua Holdings Berhad. He was then a state assemblyman and yet to earn a Datukship twenty years ago. But he has since been promoted to the Selangor EXCO and went on to become an MP since 1990.

Many MCA members and supporters in Serdang have invested with Aik Hua because they have trusted Yap and MCA. Now that Aik Hua is in quandary, shouldn’t Yap as a founding director lend a helping hand to save these shareholders out of their predicament?

No one knows how much capital was left with Aik Hua and other MCA-sponsored Investment Company incorporated after all these years. The only thing, which was certain about Aik Hua, was that the MCA leaders like Yap Pian Hon did not run and operate Aik Hua in accordance with the 1965 Company Act.

The management has failed to call for AGMs, sending annual reports with financial statements to its shareholders except for the first few years. Shareholders were only paid with a small dividend of 5% once for the past twenty years. Not even single MCA top guns have come forward to explain their case or clear their names over the fiasco.

No action has been taken by anybody to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) for justice and should all the other MCA-sponsored Investment Company in other states too be die naturally?

The MCA central committee held a meeting on March 15, 2008 and decided that it is 'unsuitable' to discuss president Ong Ka Ting's resignation. It also decides that the party polls will be held next month.

No matter how difficult the political scenario is, as the president of MCA, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting still need to be responsible for getting the matters to the right place at the right time and pointing it in the right political ethics and culture.

CRISIS MCA IS ON

The long awaited MCA crisis finally started! This time the “Chinese drama” has its roots in the most serious setback humiliating 12th general election result.

MCA only won 15 of the 40 parliamentary seats it contested in March 8 polls are regarded as the most serious setback for the MCA since its formation. The grassroots leaders were utterly flabbergasted, saddened and disenchanted with the huge casualties of MCA candidates.


Both former vice-presidents of MCA Datuk Chua Jui Meng and Datuk Yap Pian Hon are accusing MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting as a poor quality leader and thus should bear full responsibility toward the dismal performance in the general election and resign.


They said it is the clear message from the Chinese community to the present MCA leadership; in particular, it’s a no-confidence vote of Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.


The basic political questions arise: Is the resignation of MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting automatically solves all the political humiliating result? Should he resigned, who should be the one replacing him? Datuk Chua Jui Meng Or Datuk Yap Pian Hon? Can he re-engineer the party and revitalize the party? Is the Central Committee support the ultimatum?


The seriousness of the political scenario of MCA facing now is the senior former vice-president sent out the ultimatum to the president at this critical time. Datuk Chua Jui Meng, serving 15 years as a vice-president of MCA and a former health minister said earlier that the main reason for MCA suffering the humiliating general election result is due to too many new faces were selected to replace senior leaders under the party’s plan to inject fresh talent into parliament.


With the nickname “a cat with nine lives", former Serdang MP Datuk Yap Pian Hon share the same view and feel that the dictatorial and authoritarian style of the president in selecting candidates had been factor in the swing against the party.


Some party members of less than three years standing were selected as candidates in the recent election, which was against Article 120 of the MCA constitution. The Article 120 stated that: “The president for special reasons shall have the power to exempt a member from the provisions of Article 120 but such special reason shall be given to the Central Committee.”


It seems that Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting should answer the question raised by grassroots leaders whether the central committee had given approval and if so when was the meeting held.
