Bagan Pinang - A record number of Ninth by-election in NS

The death of the Barisan Nasional’s Bagan Pinang state assemblyman Azman Mohd Noor in Negeri Sembilan yesterday once again triggers the ninth by-election after the 12th general election.

Azman Mohd Noor

Azman Mohd Noor died of blood infection at the Seremban Specialist Centre at 3.30pm yesterday. The seat is considered a BN stronghold.

During last general election, Azman garnered 6,430 votes, a majority of 2,333 votes to beat Ramli Ismail of Pas, who got 4,097 votes.

Bagan Pinang, located in the Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat in Port Dickson is a Malay-Muslim majority seat in which voters from the community make up 66 per cent of the electorate. Over 10 per cent of voters are Chinese while Indians make up an unusually high percentage at 19.9 per cent.

The question arises: Will opposition put up a real challenge to the coming by-election?
