MCA PRESIDENT DECLINE CABINET POST?

As a responsible politician, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting will decline a cabinet post although he won the Kulai parliamentary seat. The questions remain: Will the declination of the cabinet post solve the political problems? Will the newcomers to the cabinet perform better? In fact, he should remain in cabinet like Prime Minister did and corrects the wrong pratices of the policies should it existed. This is called responsible.

It is reported that MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting will decline the cabinet post as he felt responsible for the party's disastrous outing which lack of support from Chinese voters in this election. He will remain party president and work full time with other Barisan Nasional component party heads to win back public support for the coalition.

The second major partner of the Barisan Nasional suffered a humiliating defeat, winning only 15 of the 40 parliamentary seats it contested. It was a severe blow as it lost in all the parliamentary seats the party contested in Penang, Negri Sembilan and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. In 2004 general election, MCA won 31 of the 40 parliamentary seats.

It is understood that Ong will be recommending Datuk Ong Tee Keat, Datuk Liow Tiang Lai, Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and his brother, Perak MCA head Datuk Ong Ka Chuan for the transport, human resources, health, and housing and local government respectively.

All four will be newcomers to the cabinet. Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy, Datuk Seri Fong Chan Onn, Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek and Ong himself previously held the posts.
